Other Project Work
The work of the Youth Resilience Demonstration project is continued in additional work underway in the Western Cape. In Wesbank and Belhar, the CJCP is working with the Western Cape Department of Social Development to implement family preservation projects as a means towards enhancing community safety. This project entails a range of activities undertaken with children, youth and parents and caregivers in the community, as well as with community leaders.
In Du Noon, the CJCP is working on a re-integration programme for non-South African nationals as part of a community safety and anti-Xenophobia strategy. The activities focus on conflict resolution , reintegration and the provision of psycho-social support to foreigners affected by the violence. As with all CJCP project sites, the Hlayiseka Toolkit is implemented in schools at this site. The underlying assumption of this project is that to effectively address issues of xenophobia within any community, interventions need to target both South Africans and non-South Africans. Similarly, addressing xenophobia is integral to achieving community safety at a local level.
